Do you love yourself enough?

Love makes the world go round and it’s not just the romantic love for someone else. Self love is just as important.

It’s Valentine’s Day and we remember to show those special people in our lives how much they mean to us. But wait just a second, have you considered how special you are? Self love is not selfish or indulgent. It’s an essential ingredient which allows us to love others even more. It is so easy to be self critical and hard on oneself. We are typically harder on oneself than anyone else would ever be. So on this day go ahead and appreciate how great the person you see in the mirror really is!

Here are some simple Valentine’s gestures for yourself:

Do something that you love today! If you love cooking make something delicious. Put on your sports shoes and go for a run if you love to exercise outdoors or spend a little time doing a hobby you’re good at.

Spend a little time in your happy place. Whilst you’re there this is your time to switch off from all the things you have to do and reconnect with yourself.

Do something that doesn’t get onto your to do list as it feels indulgent. Read a book for 10 mins, phone a friend who you haven’t spoken to in a while, sit down with a cup of tea or how about letting yourself watch a bit of your favourite TV show?

If you get chance how about taking a short nap? The National Sleep Foundation report how a 20 minute nap can boost alertness, improve your mood, lessen tension and even reduce the risk of heart disease.

Nourish your body with real, whole foods. What you choose to put in your body affects how you feel. Hydrate with plenty of water. Your body matters so fuel it with the cleanest diet possible.

Write yourself some positive affirmations on sticky notes and leave them where you’ll see them during the day. Even a quick glance in their direction will lift your spirits!

Practising self love doesn’t need to take up much of your time, in fact very little time at all. A little self love goes a long way towards helping you transform your life!
